10 Things You Probably Didn’t Know About Me | Personal

Every now and then, I like to throw in a personal post for the blog because yes, pretty pictures are great, but I want y’all to know me as more than just a photographer! I am a mother and a wife; I have been married to my husband, Seth, now for just over six years. We have two beautiful children, Noah and Aislynn, ages 5 and 16 months. We currently live in Northern Virginia, but we will moving a little west to Harper’s Ferry, WV in the beginning of the new year! SO excited about that and to have more space for our family! If it’s not obvious by now, I love capturing love and creating beautiful memories for couples and families. No, I didn’t grow up with a camera in my hand, but I always enjoyed capturing the moment when I had the opportunity. My love for photography really began after my husband and I began our family and brought Noah into the world. It was important to me to document the various milestones, and as my interest for photography grew, I met more and more people who left me in awe and mentored me. At that point, I was really lucky to know and have friends who were professional photographers who really stood out to me and inspired me to explore photography further! Thanks Devon and Andi; love you gals! 🙂

So other then that little intro above, I wanted to include a few things that maybe you didn’t know about me…things that are not listed in the “About Me” section of the website or really talked about much at all!

  1. I am deathly afraid of clowns. I have mentioned this before on Instagram during a Friday Introductions post…but man…this phobia is for real so I must mention it here! This fear came about after watching the movie IT at too young of an age! Anyone else with me?? Clowns are terrifying!
  2. For a long time, I was raised by my grandmother, Beth. Originally from Colorado, I bounced around a bit in California with my mother, but I made my way back to Colorado in the later part of elementary school and lived with her through the middle of high school. She was such a huge influence in my life, and despite my teenager “woe-is-me” attitude at the time, I really did learn so very much from her! I miss her everyday; she passed  shortly after I announced that I was pregnant with Noah, but I know she’s always watching over us. 🙂
  3. I was baptized in high school. I actually grew up without any type of religion or knowledge about a higher power. My family just wasn’t really into it; but my senior year of high school was a really tough one and ultimately brought me to form a relationship with God. I randomly met a stranger on the bus one day who introduced me to such an amazing church and group of people, and my life was forever changed from that point on! Thanks Todd – you’re amazing!
  4. Some people make faces when I talk about this…but my husband and I dated for only four months before we got engaged! It was one of those…”when you know, you know!” A lot of people didn’t really believe in us and felt that we really rushed, but six years later, we love each other more than ever, and Seth is my best friend and such a great dad to our kids.
  5. I served in the U.S. Navy for six years; I joined right after graduating high school in 2008. Actually, that is where Seth and I met. I was stationed in Virginia Beach and Southern Maryland, and I got to do some pretty cool things, like ride in helicopters and travel to some new places I had never been before, like the Bahamas!
  6. You know how there are some types of food that you can have any time, any where? Like you always have a craving for it, and when people ask, “What are you in the mood for?” and you just instantly know? Mine is Mexican food. Tacos, burritos, chimichangas, chips and guac…the works. Am I the only one?!
  7. Fall is my FAVORITE season. I mean….isn’t it everyones? I love the colors, Halloween, sweater weather, the seasonal drinks at Starbucks, layers, scarves, boots….all of the things that would make me “basic”  ðŸ˜›
  8. If I could go anywhere, I would visit Ireland. Lucky for me, my husband and I are planning a trip to Ireland next year. After we got married, we planned on going as a late honeymoon, but I got pregnant rather quickly. Oh yeah…another fun fact. I got pregnant just 4 months after being married. I think 4 must by my lucky number 😉
  9. I am dying…DYING! to travel out of the country to shoot a beautiful wedding! Wouldn’t it be amazing to shoot one in Ireland while we were planning to go?! AHH! That would be such a dream come true! It doesn’t have to be Ireland; I would love to shoot really anywhere outside of the United States! I’d love to add “International Wedding Photographer” to my resume!
  10. When I was younger, my grandpa taught me how to shoot a bow and arrow! We would sit out back and practice all the time on some targets he had set up; these are some of my favorite memories from my childhood. If the zombie apocalypse ever happens…you know what type of weapon I plan on picking up! 😉

^^ A little throwback to our family session with Sarah Williams of This Rad Love last fall! ^^

So, hopefully now you know me a little better than you did before, and I’d love to hear any stories about Ireland, international travel, and maybe some archery in the comments below!
