“Best of 2015” Mini-Blog Series | Wedding + Portrait Details | Virginia Wedding, Anniversary, + Engagement Photographer
Capturing details such as wedding bands, engagement rings, invitation suites, or special heirlooms passed down from great-grandparents is absolutely one of my favorite things about being a wedding and engagement photographer! These details are incredibly important, and it’s crucial to get them captured, especially on your wedding day, because you may not have them for the rest of your life. These photographs will allow you to look back at these priceless items and remember how special they were to you and your family!
As a wedding photographer, photographing details at the beginning of your special day allows me to do a few things. One, I can forever preserve these details that you put so much thought into while planning your wedding. Two, you will be able to show these photographs to your children, your grandchildren, your great-grandchildren and beyond, and they will get to feel like they were a part of it and the beginning of your story! Three, it really gets me warmed up and on a roll for capturing your entire day!
During engagement portrait sessions and the wedding day, I love to capture your details and tie things like each of your rings, your invites, and your jewelry together for a seamless and cohesive look! For example, I photographed Brittany and Michael’s lifestyle anniversary session earlier this year in their home. We had breakfast food; they were dressed for comfort, and it was such a cute and cozy session at home! It was only fitting that I photographed their rings with their delicious cinnamon buns!
Earlier in the year, I attended Justin & Mary’s lighting intensive workshop in Smithfield, VA, and I took this shot after we learned from J & M about off-camera lighting at receptions! This was really handy to learn, especially for weddings with uplighting! It’s important that I, as a photogapher, know how to capture reception details as they are, while maintaining such a fun detail like colored uplighting! Again, it’s those special details you, as a bride and groom, are putting so much time and thought into for your wedding day to make it extra special!
Veils that have been passed down from one generation to another are just so amazing! It warms my heart when I see a bride wearing something that has been worn by either her mother or her grandmother!
It’s the littlest details, like your wedding date on your hanger, that just make the day!
I am an absolute sucker for gorgeous diamond rings and florals!
Love this cotton boutonniere! It was perfect for Nikki and Rich’s rustic wedding in Bedford, VA!
Jen’s ring is so unique! I have never seen a ring with heart-shaped prongs before! Such a beautiful detail!
Shannon tied her late grandmother’s pearls around the stem of her wedding bouquet, and I had to hold back some tears thinking about how important it was to Shannon that her grandmother was close to her on her wedding day and still a part of one of the most important days of her life! It’s details like this that make me absolutely LOVE being a wedding photographer!
Handmade details like these cake toppers are so cute! Shannon and Ryan had these painted to look like them, and they included their fur-baby, Kiva!
This ring is another special heirloom passed down to a bride from her grandmother! SO beautiful!
I always love finding little surprises on wedding days! I loved that Marissa added these “I Do” decals to her wedding shoes!
This veil from White Dress by Greta Kay is just absolutely stunning and full of so much detail! I LOVED it!
xoxo,
