A Guide to Ring Boxes (With a Special Guest Poster: Sarah Houston Photography) | Tips | Virginia + Destination Wedding Photographer

One of my best friends, Sarah of Sarah Houston Photography, and I decided to team up today to chat about ring boxes. We all know and love those gorgeous velvet boxes by The Mrs. Box, but let’s be honest for a second, I don’t always have the ability to purchase those, and sometimes, the color I love and would want to purchase is out of stock for months at a time! I know several photographer friends who love adding these ring boxes to their wedding details kit, and of course there are lots of brides out there discovering these adorable little things that can beautifully display the bling around their finger!

I am not knocking on the The Mrs. Boxes by any means; they are GORGEOUS and are an excellent option for photos on the wedding day or during your engagement shoot for detail shots!

The good news is, there are other options out there, especially on Etsy! I am a big fan of Etsy myself because tons of the shops on there produce handmade and local items! I came across two Etsy shops that carry velvet ring boxes, and they offer something just a little bit different than the ever-so-popular The Mrs. Box! The best part is, they come in lots of colors, and they are a bit friendlier on the wallet! (So you can really stock up)!

JuliaBJewelry – I love her boxes because they actually have two slots for rings, so in case you would want to show off both your band AND engagement ring, you can easily do so!

Weft and Whimsy – Super similar to The Mrs. Boxes, and they have options for two ring slots as well, but they are side by side rather than on top of each other! How different and unique! I think this type of box would be great to display both the bride’s and the groom’s wedding rings!

Are you not into the velvet ring boxes at all?! That’s okay! Vintage ring boxes are a popular alternative, and I just love this one that Sarah picked up!

From Sarah: “I absolutely LOVE highlighting “The Ring” on the wedding day. I mean, afterall, it is the start to the couples’ love story! What better way to show it off in a #ringshot than with an amazing vintage ring box – one-of-a-kind, like the gorgeous ring he presented to you. I love purchasing mine at our local antique stores, but recently I’ve taken to Etsy because I love supporting the small businesses on there as well! Don’t get me wrong, I am a lover of “The Mrs. Box” and I own six different ones in every color! But for truly jaw-dropping photos, I like to bring out the vintage boxes to compliment the ring even more. “The Mrs. Box” do allow you to monogram it, which is a nice touch (well worth the $75 investment)! So, if you are looking for a unique way to present your ring in the #ringshot, I’d definitely check out “The Mrs. Box” and Etsy for your ring box needs!”

You can find Sarah on Facebook HERE and on Instagram HERE! She’s a doll, and I’m so excited she could join me today in offering some great information on the different options out there for ring boxes for both brides and fellow wedding photographers!

    Hi guys!
When you show up to a wedding, do you carry all of your boxes with you and pick one…or do have your pre-selected which one to take?
