Welcoming Baby Emma | Northern Virginia Lifestyle Newborn Photographer

A couple of weeks ago, I had the pleasure of photographing a friend’s sister with her family, including their newest arrival, baby Emma. Emma was born late last month, and she is just absolutely beautiful! I always love getting the opportunity to meet growing families, especially during such an amazing time as the welcoming of a brand new baby to the family, and I loved getting to spend time with this adorable family in Ashburn, Virginia!

Being a lifestyle newborn photographer certainly has its perks…I get my “Baby Fix” in for a few hours, and then I can go home and sleep soundly :)….
for the most part, that is…seeing as how our now two-year-old occasionally still wakes up in the middle of the night. Newborn babies are also the best models; they don’t even have to pose, and I can capture their sweet little details and facial expressions with ease! 🙂

Some of my favorite moments at a lifestyle newborn photo session are those special, intimate ones with mom, dad, or their older siblings! The way a mother or father holds their sweet baby in their arms…the look they have on each of their faces as they study one another’s features…they are priceless!

Often, I photograph these sessions with big sis or big bro included! I love getting to take a little time out and capture them playing or spending time with Mom or Dad because they are just as special too, and it’s just as important to capture them and their sweet facial expressions!

One of my favorite sets! I caught Emma in the middle of a sneeze, and baby sneezes are pretty much the greatest!

Big Sis Olivia looks so proud of her new baby sis! I just love them already!

How this last shot came about is a little interesting. I happened to be packing up my gear and getting ready to walk out the door when I looked over and saw Emma on the couch with her grandmother. I instantly did a double-take because um..hello?! Adorable, sleeping baby! But not only was this such a tender, real moment, but the natural light that was pouring into their living room was WAY too good to pass up. So, I set my bag down, grabbed my camera, attached my lens, and I snapped just one more. I just felt so strongly that I needed to pause and snap just one more, and I think this is my new favorite lifestyle newborn image that I’ve captured! I know it will be a precious memory for them for a lifetime, and I just love how beautiful and peaceful Emma looks as she rests safely in the arms of her grandmother.
